Top Cambridge Sightseeing Tours in 2026 - page 3

Cambridge University was founded by Oxford scholars who escaped the town/gown riots in the 13th century, and the two universities have enjoyed a friendly (sometimes not so friendly!) rivalry for many centuries. The most famous example of this is the annual Boat Race along the River Thames. As England’s two most ancient universities, they are often called ‘Oxbridge’. Today the ‘modern’ city of Cambridge has a rich array of bookshops, cafes, pubs, live music venues, galleries, museums and scenic riverside parks. The banks of the River Cam are fabulous places for the summer months. On this private walking tour through this world-famous city, your guide will help you uncover the many layers and stories of both Cambridge and its alumni including luminaries such as Stephen Hawking, Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, and several prime ministers. Enjoy the quaint, antiquated yet vibrant atmosphere – and enjoy stopping off for a pint at a local, historic tavern afterwards.

As well as Cambridge’s famous University buildings and grand architecture, there’s a smaller, rather charming side of the city that avid hunters like to search for—its Dinky Doors. These are miniature sculptures which pop up around the city, and are loved by kids and adults alike. On this self-guided tour, set off on an adventure to discover 12 doors and watch a video backstory for each door.
