Absolute best tour on the island of Hawaii!

My husband and I were on NCL Pride of America from June 13-20, 2026 but I booked most of our excursions off the ship. I did so much research, read all the reviews, and knew we wanted to do a small group tour rather than one of the run of the mill big tour companies. I liked the itinerary listed, the reasonable price and saw this tour included lunch so I booked this trip. OMG, we had such an amazing time. Mike’s tour business, Lehua Tours is newer. Big Mike is the owner and your tour guide. He is outgoing, positive and friendly. He absolutely loves what he does and it shows. So many thoughtful “extras” that you won’t get on other tours. Mike took us out to lunch at an amazing lunch spot off the beaten path. This is included in your tour price and you can choose anything off the menu. I am a picky eater and I had an amazing panini that was made to order, delicious! Mike is from Hawaii and shares so much history and fun stories. He has a great, comfortable van, a screen to show visuals to accompany his commentary. I loved his music playlist with classic and modern Hawaiian vibe music. I told Mike, he needs to get his playlist on Spotify! My husband and I had excursions every day of our cruise and this was our favorite! Wow! This tour was one of the best our family has ever taken! There were ten of us, ranging in age from 18 months to 80 years old and everyone had so much fun and learned a lot too! Every stop was amazing and they give you plenty of time to explore and take pictures. In between stops, you will learn so much about the history and culture of the native Hawaiians. If you are trying to decide which tour to book, look no further, you will not be disappointed!

They changed the time...

They changed the time from 9am to 8am and didn’t inform me of it, I showed our guide that our tickets still said 9am, so we almost lost our excursion because of this but our sweet guide did not leave without us and called me to inform of the change and we left by 8:20am. She said Viator should have sent me the change and I received nothing.

Highly recommend this tour!!

We absolutely loved this tour!! Not only did we get spectacular views of the volcano, but we were able to enter a lava tube and see Rainbow falls, and a black sand beach. Our tour with Desmond and ?(can’t remember driver’s name) was educational with pictures and much Hawaiian history. They had items that were passed around the boat that corresponded to what we were learning. We feel like we learned a lot! The small bus was comfortable and we were quite relieved we weren’t shoved on one of those huge tour buses. Lunch at the restaurant was quite good too.

Marissa was our guide/driver and she was amazing! She was very knowledgeable about the volcanoes and history of Hawaii. She was flexible in case the volcano decided to erupt and would have changed our tour around to maximize our time to see the best things. We would highly recommend this tour and Marissa.

Very easy to find the...

Very easy to find the tour guide at the Hilo cruise terminal and Josh was an excellent guide. Rainbow Falls is very pretty but I’m originally from Buffalo, NY so Niagara Falls makes me pretty biased on the magnificence of other falls. Great experience at Volcanoes National Park, and I enjoyed the brief stops at the Gardens and macadamia nut factory.

This was my kind of tour

We really had a great tour with Holley. She did her best to arrange our tour to avoid rain. Hilo weather just did cooperate though and it rained a lot at each of our stops around Hilo. Holley went out her way to make us comfortable and to make sure we had umbrellas at the rainy stops. The umbrellas made a big difference and more than once I was asked where we found the umbrellas. Other passengers from our cruise ship recognized us. (We are finishing a 54 day cruise with them.). We were so glad that we had this tour as opposed to the ones offered by the ship. There were five guests on our tour. We were very comfortable in the van. The falls were very nice especially Akaka falls. The part of the tour in Volcanos National Park was everything I could have hoped for (other an active eruption, but that just bad timing on our part). The time spent at each location easily met our needs and expectations. The weather was perfect in the park with excellent visibility. Holley is a knowledgeable and pleasant tour guide. We highly recommend this tour and Holley as your guide.
