Downtown Los Angeles is a year-round destination, but spring and fall are definitely the best times to visit if you want milder weather and fewer crowds. Summers can get hot, and summer vacation periods draw in the crowds. In contrast, winters can get some rain. Weekdays in Downtown LA tend to be busy with the office crowds, while weekends get more shoppers. Come on a Wednesday to visit the farmers market at The Bloc shopping center.

Getting around

Although LA is very much a car city, you don’t need your own four wheels to get around the downtown area. Rideshares abound, and the LA Metro’s Gold, Red, Purple, and A lines all stop downtown. Buses, bike shares, and electric scooters are also widely available. Once you’ve reached downtown, you can leave your ride behind and explore on foot, either independently or on a walking tour.

If you’re into shopping, you won’t want to miss The Santee Alley, a year-round shopping strip in the heart of downtown’s Fashion District. Here you’ll find around 150 vendors selling everything from souvenirs to cosmetics, with prices geared toward travelers who want a good value. Just bring cash, or an ATM card so that you can withdraw some if you need to, as some Santee Alley vendors don’t accept digital payments.
