Getting a taste of the Outback usually means piecing together a meal, entertainment, and transport across a rural town. This evening in Longreach brings them together, opening with a tour of the local floodplains before an outdoor dinner beside the Thomson River. Sit down to Australian bush food, then stay on for live entertainment and dancing.

Reaching one of Australia’s most remarkable fossil sites on your own can be challenging, especially when you want to get real insight from what you’re seeing. This guided day tour to Lark Quarry Conservation Park makes it easy to visit the "Dinosaur Stamped," where more than 3,000 preserved footprints reveal a dramatic moment from around 95 million years ago. With a guide offering insight into the area's geology and prehistoric landscape, gain a better understanding of the site while enjoying wide-open outback scenery.

The dinosaur trackways in Winton's mesa country sit along rough station roads that put off many self-drivers. This small-group tour reaches them for you, crossing Carisbrooke Station to a guided visit of the Stampede, where around 3,300 footprints survive in the rock. Stretch your legs on the Spinifex Walk, then stop for lunch with coffee and tea.

Our Country Classics menu takes inspiration from homestead kitchens and Country Women’s Association favourites. Enjoy a delicious main course and all-you-can-eat desserts for an inclusive price! Dine in the heritage surrounds of The Welcome Home on Wednesday and Saturday evenings.

Go behind the scenes and travel back in time to those early years of Qantas with a Long reach local and fellow enthusiast. Be mesmerized when you tour the inside of the four iconic aircraft located under the 8000m2 airpark roof and feel like a rockstar when touring the Boeing 707 – a private jet! The storytelling takes guests back to the beginnings of where Qantas started in the amazing Outback Queensland. Come along and visit Long reach, the home of Qantas; right where it all began.

Ending a day out means deciding between a sunset drink and sorting dinner, then getting between the two. This cruise combines them, gliding along the Thomson River with stories of local wildlife and Indigenous culture as you settle in on the top deck. As night falls, dock at Smithy's Outback Dinner and Show for a two-course camp-oven dinner and live entertainment.

Escape the tourist trail for the Carnarvon Range, a dramatic plateau scarred with gorges, with an ecologist guide as you explore a private 72,000 acre (29,000-hectare) cattle station. Discover a secret cave at the Axe Factory Aboriginal site; soak up the beauty of rock formations such as Arch Rock and the Sphinx; and see Aboriginal art in Rainbow Cave. Tour includes lunch, snacks, guiding, and hotel pickup from Roma.

Reaching the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum means a long Outback drive before you even start exploring the site. This half-day tour from Winton takes the driving off your plate, with air-conditioned transfers and prebooked entry. Join all three museum tours—Laboratory, Collection Room, and Dinosaur Canyon—without queuing.

The colours of the outback come alive at sunset as you glide down the Thomson River aboard the M.V. Longreach Explorer. After a warm welcome by our experienced crew, take your seat on the top deck ready to capture 360-degree sweeping, river and floodplain views. Our Captain will enthral you with captivating stories about the river, its wildlife and Indigenous heritage. Enjoy complimentary nibbles on board, and purchase icy cold drinks from our licensed bar. Photo opportunities are endless, but our stop at Sunset Bend is a hands-down favourite. As we leisurely cruise back to our dock, you will see stunning vibrant sunset colours as they fade into starlight.
