Quebec City keeps everything: a general's skull in a convent for nearly two centuries, a governor's heart that his wife posted back from France, the old seat of government buried under Dufferin Terrace. This self-guided ghost walk follows what the city kept. The Questo app gives you a paranormal case file on Vieux-Québec that has been open since 1961, and you close it by checking what the dead claim against the record. The route runs from Dufferin Terrace through the Upper Town, past the Ursulines, the old gaol and the basilica, then down to Place Royale and the Breakneck Steps. At each of the 13 stops you solve a puzzle on the spot, from a photo that doesn't quite match the real facade to a question with its letters scrambled, and the app adds the story it unlocks. Some ghost stories survive the check. Others, like the nun of Holy Trinity, fall apart. Allow two hours for the 2 km. It's best after dark, when the terrace lamps come on. Hints and 24/7 support are in the app.

Do you believe in the paranormal? Hosted by professional ghost hunter Dominique Desormeaux of Investigations 13, Haunted Montreal’s “Paranormal Investigation: Colonial Old Montreal” takes guests on a dark adventure into the mysterious world of ghost hunting. Founded in 1642, the Ville-Marie Colony has seen countless public executions, torture, wars, beheadings, people burned alive, murders, and other horrific acts. Numerous unsettled spirits were created both during the religious paranoia of the New France Era and the bureaucratic brutality of the British Regime, which took over in 1760. Guests will learn strategies and techniques to locate and communicate with spirits. Ghost-hunting tools such as Dowsing Rods, EMF Readers, Temperature Guns, and other devices will be made available to reach out to the many deranged spirits that haunt present-day Old Montreal.

This is a self-guided exploration game where you'll be solving a paranormal case involving real people and their wandering ghosts. The file on Old Montreal has been open since 1964. You, with your detective and observational skills, and a little help from the Questo app, will try to close it in 2 hours. The route runs from the sailors' chapel past Place d'Armes to Pointe-à-Callière, 13 of the old city's darkest addresses. Your job is to hear out the dead and check their stories against the record. You'll discover dark stories like a rich man's daughter who chose a cell behind an altar, a woman tried for a fire no witness saw her set, and the first dead the frost kept pushing back up. Each location involves inspecting a real-world object and solving a challenge. Best after dark with your phone torch on. About 2.3 km of walking, with unlimited breaks. Hints and 24/7 support if you get stuck. Perfect for Halloween or any night you're in the mood for creepy ghost stories.
