Simplify your night-time tour to Kawah Ijen by letting someone else take care of the transportation and logistics. You’ll be picked up from your accommodation in the Banyuwangi area and transported to Kawah Ijen at night, so you can see the dazzling blue natural flame, caused by the burning sulfur. Learn about the lives of sulfur stone carriers who work on the mountain, and watch the sunrise from the top.

You’ll watch the sunrise at Mount Bromo, see the wide sea of clouds, and walk across the sandy desert to the top of an active volcano. The next day, you’ll hike to Mount Ijen and stand by its bright blue crater lake as the sun comes up. Cool air, beautiful colors in the sky, and views that make you stop and say “wow.” It’s a trip that stays in your memory for a long time. This private tour is great for travelers with limited time, starting at midnight for the Bromo sunrise and continuing the next day to explore Ijen’s stunning crater.

It’s not possible to reach the Ijen Crater by public transportation and Java is no place to drive in the dark. Skip the expense of private tours on this no-frills small-group adventure, with pickup direct from your hotel. Leave after midnight, hike to the crater—guide, gas mask, and entrance fees are included—then trek back down. If the group agrees, you can also stop at a coffee plantation and a waterfall.
