Itineraries for Your Trip to Salem
3 Days in Salem for First Timers
Salem was a quick drive from my Massachusetts college, and I visited there frequently to walk through spooky graveyards and soak up all the foreboding vibes. I always enjoyed spending time at the shops and restaurants on the wharf before heading over to check out the immersive exhibits at the Salem Witch Museum.
On a recent East Coast visit with one of my kids, we stopped in Salem on our way up the coast, and it was just as I remembered. My son is a big history buff, and we enjoyed a historical walking tour to beef up our witchy facts before dining on seafood at a restaurant on the water.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a visit to the Charter Street Cemetery.
Summer and fall are the best seasons in Salem, with warm days and cooler nights. Expect snow in winter and early spring.
Salem has a rich history, and walking around the town is an excellent way to start your visit. Take a historical walking tour to learn about Salem's role in the American Revolution and its ties to the origins of Halloween, stopping by prominent locations like the Charter Street Cemetery and the John Ward House.
Once you've learned about Salem's storied past, head out on this haunted pub crawl that's best enjoyed once darkness falls. Enjoy a glass of witch's brew as you listen to stories of Salem's many paranormal hot spots.
Did you know Salem is home to the oldest candy company in America? You'll learn about Ye Olde Pepper Candy Companie and much more on this sweet tour of many of Salem's favorite candy shops. You'll have time to shop and snack along the way.
For a bewitchingly fun tour of a different sort, spend the afternoon touring all the hot spots made famous by the Salem Witch Trials. You'll start at the Halloween Museum and pass by the *Bewitched* statue, a tribute to actress Elizabeth Montgomery and the perfect selfie spot.
Now that you've embraced all of Salem's witchy past, it's time to embody the black-clothed witches and warlocks and create your very own witch's broom. Whether you go colorful and decorate yours with jewels or opt for a traditional option, you'll leave Salem with a one-of-a-kind souvenir.
There's no better option for your last afternoon in Salem than a witchy photo shoot. Choose from hundreds of costumes and pose in a set mimicking Old Salem Village of 1692. It's the perfect way to memorialize your time in Salem.
